CODE-SWTICHING IN LEGAL ENGLISH CLASSES: TEACHERS’ PRACTICES AND BELIEFS

Code-switching in foreign language classrooms is a common phenomenon that has captured interests of researchers worldwide over the past decades. The lack studies about code-switching legal English teaching and learning Vietnam gives rise to this current research. study aimed investigate practices teachers classes at university examine their perceptions own practices. Three lecturers Hanoi Law University participated study. Teachers’ classroom observations interviews were used as methods data collection. findings from indicate first (L1), Vietnamese, was occasionally employed by serve different purposes: subject access, management interpersonal relationships. Inter-sentential predominates intra-sentential tag switching. results teacher shed light on various underlying reasons for teachers’ L1 use. outcomes also reveal some mismatches between actual beliefs regarding elicitation, recapitulation, Several suggestions implementing training programs effective strategic use L2 instructions, further research are addressed present
